Dr Roger Maitland
Roger practices as a transition coach and partners with leaders, teams and organisations to thrive in uncertain times. He coaches leaders to develop the adaptive capacity needed to create results in fast-changing markets, and coaches teams and stakeholder groups to work towards collaborative and innovative outcomes. Roger consults to organisations seeking to increase organisational effectiveness through developing internal coaching capacity and embedding corporate sustainability.
As an entrepreneur Roger understands the need for strategic agility and the consequent importance of carving out time for regular reflection so that challenges can be transformed into opportunities for learning. His experience in coaching and consulting across emerging and developed economies across five continents has highlighted the importance of understanding context and resulted in a passion for the development of systemic thinking. Prior to becoming a professional coach in 2003, Roger was responsible for the marketing portfolio of an education startup, and previously managed the national corporate social responsibility programme of a management consultancy.
Roger holds a Ph.D. Business Administration in Corporate Sustainability at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, a M.A. in Professional Development (Coaching) - passed with distinction - at Middlesex University, and a B.A. (Honours) in Psychology. He is accredited as a coach at Master Practitioner level with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC Global). Roger has published journal articles in corporate sustainability and coaching. As a member of the EMCC Global, he receives regular supervision for his coaching practice.
Roger is a visiting lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch Business School on the faculty of the M.Phil in Leadership Coaching. He assesses coach development programmes seeking the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC Global) European Quality Award (EQA) accreditation. Roger designed the original curriculum for the Diploma in Coaching for the South African College of Applied Psychology, and was previously the Chairperson of the Western Cape Chapter of COMENSA (Coaches and Mentors of South Africa). Roger volunteers as a climate reality leader with the Climate Reality Project.
